The Perfect Matcha
I have an addiction. Lately my coffee cravings have been replaced with yearnings for steaming cups of matcha. I crave almond milk matcha lattes with a big spoonful of honey all day long. It's the earthy flavour, the creamy texture and the smooth and steady caffeine rush that have me craving more and more.
Not only is it delicious, but one glass of matcha is the equivalent of 10 glasses of green tea in terms of its nutritional value and antioxidant content.
I finally went to David's Tea yesterday and shelled out some serious cash for their organic blend. Matcha, finely powdered green tea, isn't cheap. The price varies depending on the grade which can vary by location of the tea bush, treatment before processing, stone grinding and oxidation. It can take up to one hour to grind 30 grams of matcha!
I picked up the grand cru organic matcha, a custom organic blend from Japan’s premier producer in the legendary Aichi Prefecture. It is smooth, subtly sweet, and my reason for waking up this morning.
After two steaming cups of almond milk matcha lattes, I decided to give a mango matcha smoothie a go. It was so delicious I had to share.
Mango Matcha Smoothie
- 1-2 cups almond milk
- Frozen mango
- Handful of kale
- Tsp matcha
- 1/2 tsp maca
- Stevia to taste
